Having been to Bilbao in the past and developed somewhat of an affinity with the club. We had a message form the Bilbao club that they wanted to celebrate our relationship with us by means of a flag exchange. We worked closely with the Bilbao fans side, and local linguistic experts to get wording translated for this match.
One of our volunteers was in close contact with the club and the Bilbao club around possible activity for the day, and when that time came, a Bilbao representative met our volunteer on the pitch at kick off to hand over a flag, created by them to celebrate our close relationship.
We had a lot of requests, given this was a friendly, make sure that there were flags throughout the ground, so those who wanted to, could wave them. Over 40,000 fans in the stadium for a friendly with such an important relationship was excellent.
We decided to hang the donated flag somewhere prominent, namely the Milburn / Gallowgate corner.
Onward to the start of the season.
