NUFC vs Spurs (1 September 2024)
September 1, 2024Wor Beer: The Ultimate Newcastle United Gift
September 5, 2024Southampton (H)
Southampton marked the return of the Premier League season at St James’ Park and as always the return of our displays. Inspiration for the display came from multiple different places, including Sir Bobby Robson and 5 magpies for Silver.
The surfer flag, which took over the whole centre block of seats (and a bit further) of the Gallowgate Stand, featured all 3 domestic trophies being attacked by 5 magpies – famously seeing 5 magpies symbolises silver, or silverware. The trophies had 4 of our fantastic players under it, Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak, Joelinton and Anthony Gordon. Surrounded by the cathedral on a hill that is St James’ Park. We hope, like all football fans, that this season is the one for silverware to return to our beloved club.
The banner below the surfer featured the quote “We still have wild dreams” paying homage to a quote by the great Sir Bobby Robson ~ “It’s not beyond our wildest dreams, because we did have wild dreams.” ~ which was also a centrepiece for our final Champions League game against AC Milan last season.
Whilst our main display took centre stage in the Gallowgate both corners had further elements. In the Strawberry Corner, we had a banner with our thanks to departing co-owners Amanda Stanley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi, who will be missed around the city, but forever remembered and cherished. And in the West Corner, a flag gifted to us by the amazing fans from Toon Army Tokyo featuring the great wave and Mount Fuji.
This display, and all of our displays past and future, was put together using money kindly donated by the fans of the football club. Thank you for your amazing support.
