NUFC v Crystal Palace (20 April 2022)
April 20, 2022NUFCW v Alnwick Town Ladies (1 May 2022)
May 2, 2022This game was very much anticipated and we had planned to have a display in all areas of the ground, including Level 7 of the Milburn. Much of the other display was still in the stadium but we thought that we would mix it up a little with the display. We had planned for a particular display, which may come later, but the delivery from the supplier failed to arrive in time, so on the Thursday before the game, we put plans in place for a revised display. A supporter who has a seat in Milburn L7 wanted to help so bought some of her own flags to distribute.
So plans for the game were large or small wavers around the ground in all areas, a large Eddie Howe banner in the Gallowgate middle tier, the large We are the Mag’s surfer over the Leazes stand. Finally, around 50 large wavers were put out at the front of the East Stand and the Gallowgate.
On the Friday before the game, and the morning of the game we’re at St James to get the displays into the right place re
We needed lots of volunteers for this and in particular, the banner in the Gallowgate and the surfer in the Leazes end, so a message on the WhatsApp group for helpers, and that was that.
On the day of the match, those with specific responsibilities carried on with that, and those on the Leazes surfer had an additional piece of work, namely taking the 54-stone surfer back to the stores in the Gallowgate and out of risk areas.
All hard work was then put to the test in the final few minutes, as the stadium engaged in flag-waving throughout, the Gallowgate banner went up and out without a fuss and the amazing view from the Gallowgate of the We Are Mag’s surfer went from front to the back of the Leazes, stayed there and returned, in perfect execution. Well done Leazes, we salute you.
Sadly the match result wasn’t something we’d like to celebrate over so few flags were waving at the end, but still a smattering around the stadium showing the team our support.
We move now to Arsenal…
